Research has been taking place to find the wreck of a VOC ship in Table Bay near Cape Town since 1989. The wreck is that of the Nieuw Haarlem, an East Indiaman of about 500 tons that was built in 1635 –1636 in the yard of the Chamber of Amsterdam. For more information, please see link.
