The ‘Haarlem’ is mentioned in the March 2024 issue of the Dutch magazine Geschiedenis Magazine. In this article ” Hoe Kaapstad ontstond (pp. 42-45) On March 25, 1647, the VOC ship Haarlem was wrecked in Table Bay near the Cape of Good Hope. Nearly half of the crew members were taken to the Republic by other ships, but 62 crew members stayed behind to recover the valuable cargo. Dr. Bruno Werz explains the far-reaching consequences of this decision.
